“You Got A Smile For Me?”
You Got A Smile For Me? was done during a time when I wasn’t planning my pieces. Instead, I would intuitively make a canvas and then observe it for a couple of days until an idea came to me. This came from an idea from the book “Big Magic” that if an idea wants to be made, it will find a person willing to bring it to life. So I waited and listened.
What I ended up creating was a kind of visual representation of a short film that ran in my head when the title was said to me by someone on a Go Train during my morning commute. While outwardly I just stared the individual down (you know, to make sure I didn’t make a scene because god forbid a woman do that) inside my head I was imagining a tiger smiling at him and then mauling him. This piece was just a way to process that event and get it out and on canvas.
